How to resize Azure Virtual Machine

How to resize Azure Virtual Machine

Resize the Azure Virtual Machine

Introduction

Before jumping to the topic - Resize an Azure VM, let’s look into the Microsoft Virtual machines selector tool to find the right VMs for our needs and budget.

It gives us great insight with the below options:

  • Find VMs by workload type
  • Find VMs by OS and software
  • Find VMs by deployment region

You can ref this link for more - azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/vm-selector

Also, if you are not aware what size to select then refer the below table for available sizes in Azure.

Login into Azure Portal:portal.azure.com/#home

2azure vm.PNG

Verify the size Open the VM and check the Size

It's done. Our VM size is increased to Standard B2ms and got 8 GiB memory

Note: changing the VM size, may cause the VM to be restarted (if the virtual machine is currently running).

If our VM is running and still we didn't see the increased size then stopping and starting the virtual machine may reveal more sizes.

Resource Cleanup

Go to the VM and stop the resource

Delete the resources

The VM is deleted now.
